Dr. Ron Can Relax Your Fear Of The Dentist

September 5, 2016

Hello and welcome to another edition of the New Albany Implants blog!

Today we want to talk about something scary: ourselves.

True story!

It is estimated that that as many as 50% of American dental patients will put off the ongoing care they need because they are afraid, to varying degrees, of the dentist.

Around here, we won’t take it personally if you have some level of fear and anxiety surrounding your appointment. But we will take it seriously, because your overall health is on the line, and we are confident that we can help.

The Big Three

Many folks who visit our Southern Indiana dentist’s office will fall into one of three groups, when it comes to fear. Though these are not mutually exclusive, it is always helpful to figure out which one sounds the most like you.

That way, we can adjust your level of sedation to make sure you have a pleasant and pain-free experience with us.

Fear Group

This folks in this group often experience a knee-jerk reaction to an unpleasant dental experience from the past. If you feel fear now when it comes to visiting the dentist or having a dentistry-related procedure it is more often than not due to a painful or unpleasant situation that already happened. It is a very common thing that we can help you move beyond.

Anxiety Group

The anxiety group is much like the fear group with one distinction: it arises around the sense that something bad could happen in the future, not as the result of past experiences or real danger in the present moment. This is nothing that we can’t help you to work through.

Phobia Group

If you fall into this group, you will feel a profound. though unreasonable, fear of the dentist. It usually results in complete avoidance of the oral healthcare you need.

Like we said, the three groups, will require their own unique approach to sedation dentistry.

Fortunately, Dr. Ron is highly trained in administering various types of sedation dentistry. The sedation methods available at New Albany Implants include:

N2O

Nitrous Oxide is a mild form of sedation that allows the patient to relax enough to take the edge off. It is delivered safely through a mask. This is a great option for patients who have a less severe fear of dentist and just need a little something to help them rest easy through their visit.

Oral Conscious Sedation

With oral conscious sedation, patients take a pill an hour before the treatment. Similar to nitrous oxide, this method helps the patient relax but it is a stronger form of sedation that makes more sense for patients with stronger feelings of fear.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is a deeper method of sedation that we offer at New Albany Implants.

This is perfect for patients who have a debilitating fear of the dentist or for those with special needs.

We often employ IV sedation on patients in order to complete multiple procedures in a single visit. And, just so you know, our office is one of the few dental offices in the Southern Indiana and Greater Louisville area that provides such comprehensive sedation treatment.

Let Us Put Your Fears To Rest!

We hope that you will be inspired to take back your health. Dr. Ron and the rest of our team work hard to provide a comfortable atmosphere and make good sedation options available for every patient who needs help letting go of their fears.

I’m the type of person that is scared of the dentist have been my whole life. I scheduled consultation with Dr Ron and he answered all my questions and more. He and his staff are great they made me feel comfortable the whole time. They used sedation for my implant procedure and it was the best decision I have ever made!! I had zero pain whatsoever. The best thing is that they have gave me the ability to smile again and to be happy. Thank you to everyone at New Albany Implants. I recommend them to anyone needing dental implants.

Amazing experience. If anyone is anxious about seeing a dentist I can assure you don’t have to be with Dr. Receveur. My only regret is not having it done sooner. His staff is pretty awesome too.

I recently had implants put in by Dr. Receveur. I was scheduled to have sedation that morning, but wasn't able to due to my sugar issues from diabetes. He assured me he would keep me comfortable so I agreed to go ahead with the procedure. He did just that, he kept me comfortable as promised and I didn't feel a thing. During the procedure he also talked to me the whole time explaining what he was doing, which also helped ease my anxiety. The entire staff there are so nice and informative, they can answer any questions you may have. All I can say is to anyone that is hesitant to have this procedure done, I honestly wish I would have had this done a long time ago! Dr. Receveur and his staff are AMAZING, and I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat!
