Keep A Great Smile All Year Long!

Hello and welcome to another edition of the New Albany Implants blog!

It is hard to believe that another hot Hoosier summer has vanished into thin air. With back to school, and new schedules, there is no doubt a lot of craziness in your life right now. We get it, but we don’t want you and your family to get overwhelmed and lose sight of your ongoing oral health needs.

As you know, we work hard to showcase preventive dental care both in our office and in our community. In fact, this blog is part of our educational outreach program designed to boost the overall wellness of folks living in Southern Indiana.

To that end, we’ve compiled some tips to keep you on track all year long.

A Great Smile Begins At Home

Let’s face it, we want to set you up for success but we won’t be there to remind you of all that you need to do on a daily basis in between your visits to our New Albany-based dentist’s office. There are a few non-negotiables that YOU will be responsible for carrying out with your family.

Brushing Your Teeth The Right Way

Is there a wrong way to do it? Well, some ways are less ideal than others. To ensure good results follow this plan:

First, make sure you have the right supplies on hand. Every member of your family should have his or her own soft-bristled toothbrush. Do not ever share toothbrushes or forget to switch them out for new ones as often as possible. You should also try to find a toothpaste that is loaded with fluoride.

Fill your brush with a small portion of toothpaste. Then get to work.

Scrub your teeth on all sides and try to get the hard to reach places. Lightly address your gums and also your tongue. Brushing needs to be done twice a day for two minutes at a stretch in order for it to do much good.

Flossing Without Fail

It’s not just us. The ADA recommends flossing every day.

When using dental floss you will want to insert the floss between all your teeth and under your gumline. Be sure to get behind your back teeth as well. This will eliminate all the plaque, bacteria, and other similarly bad things that are hiding out waiting to do you in. Remember, this is an important way to keep disease and decay at bay. If you don’t want to deal with fillings, root canals, extractions, periodontal treatments, and such, stay on top of this one!

Keep Us In The Loop

The last step in preventive dental care is visiting our dentist office in New Albany, IN, a couple times each year. Every 3-6 months is ideal.

We have the tools, training, and technology that you won’t have access to at home! Whenever you stop by for a checkup, we will perform a professional teeth cleaning and examine your mouth for any signs of cavities or gum disease, oral cancer, etc. We can also set you up with a fluoride treatment or dental sealant for extra protection.

Make it a great school year, by keeping us in the loop!
