Let’s Get The Dental Facts Straight!

August 5, 2016

Hello and welcome to another August edition of the New Albany Implants blog!

We are your trusted source for comprehensive dentistry services in New Albany, Indiana! That’s why we want you to be in the know when it comes to dental health. We usually utilize this platform to showcase something new and exciting in terms of modern dentistry ( you may have noticed that we gush about implants a lot). But today we want to examine some truths and untruths that tend to confuse patients in their attempts to do what is right for their family.

Keep reading, and then be sure to follow up with any questions of your own, and to schedule your next appointment!

Fiction: Fluoride Is Dangerous

To notice any harmful effects from fluoride you would need to be exposed to twenty times more than you likely get on a daily basis. Take our word, the fluoride you’re getting daily in this part of the world isn’t only safe, it’s essential for good oral health because it rebuilds damaged tooth enamel.

Fact: Replacing Your Toothbrush Every Three Months Is Best

We aren’t just trying to boost sales! The American Dental Association recommends that you replace your toothbrush approximately every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed. This will help you optimize the effectiveness of this preventive exercise.

Fiction: Bleeding When Brushing Is Normal

We’re sorry to tell you that nothing about bleeding while brushing is normal! It’s not due to brushing too hard. If your gums are bleeding it’s almost definitely a sign of early forms of gum disease (gingivitis). And you will want to take action.

Fact: Everyone Is Susceptible To Gum Disease

Some people think that gum disease only happens to old folks. However, gum disease is a very real possibility for people of any age or background. The older you get, your chances increase, and over the course of your life you have a high likelihood of ending up with some form of gum disease.

Fiction: Stained Teeth Are A Sign Of An Unhealthy Mouth

Yellow or stained teeth can make you feel self-conscious about smiling and less likely to socialize. But there really is no correlation between tooth color and health.

Sure, a teeth whitening treatment can help improve the look of your smile, but it’s not going to do anything for your continued well-being.

Fact: You Should See The Dentist Every Six Months

Of course we want to see you and stay in tune with the ever-changing situation in your mouth. We can help you sidestep ,major oral health issues when you stop by regularly for a comprehensive exam and professional teeth cleaning. Prevention is always a better way to go!

Fiction: You Should Brush Your Teeth Right After Eating

It seems counterintuitive, but you won’t want to brush your teeth right after you eat! If you brush your teeth within 30 minutes of eating you could actually be doing significant damage because your enamel is softened by sugars, acids, etc. That said, you should still be doing it at least twice each day for two minutes per session.

Fact: There Is A Permanent Way To Replace Missing Teeth

Restorative dentistry has come a long way over the years. We can now do amazing things for folks living with the aftermath of tooth loss as an adult. After all, we named our practice New Albany Implants.

I’m the type of person that is scared of the dentist have been my whole life. I scheduled consultation with Dr Ron and he answered all my questions and more. He and his staff are great they made me feel comfortable the whole time. They used sedation for my implant procedure and it was the best decision I have ever made!! I had zero pain whatsoever. The best thing is that they have gave me the ability to smile again and to be happy. Thank you to everyone at New Albany Implants. I recommend them to anyone needing dental implants.

Amazing experience. If anyone is anxious about seeing a dentist I can assure you don’t have to be with Dr. Receveur. My only regret is not having it done sooner. His staff is pretty awesome too.

I recently had implants put in by Dr. Receveur. I was scheduled to have sedation that morning, but wasn't able to due to my sugar issues from diabetes. He assured me he would keep me comfortable so I agreed to go ahead with the procedure. He did just that, he kept me comfortable as promised and I didn't feel a thing. During the procedure he also talked to me the whole time explaining what he was doing, which also helped ease my anxiety. The entire staff there are so nice and informative, they can answer any questions you may have. All I can say is to anyone that is hesitant to have this procedure done, I honestly wish I would have had this done a long time ago! Dr. Receveur and his staff are AMAZING, and I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat!
