How Sedation Dentistry Improves Your Smile

Hello and welcome to another June edition of the New Albany Implants blog!

We are your trusted source for dental implants in the greater Louisville area, but restoring your dignity and health is the broader mission of our team.

You see, our Southern Indiana dental practice was built around compassionate care. That is why we incorporate modern sedation techniques that make it easier for us to provide that compassion to folks living in our community who may not have seen the dentist in years.

Why would someone skip out on the appointments that keep them healthy and looking great? That’s a reasonable question. Think about it. If you were afraid or anxious about something, why would you want to go anywhere near the things that trigger your fears? This is what people who suffer from dental anxiety deal with year in and year out. In many cases they have had a mean or rude dentist in the past or had an ill-timed run in with a scalpel or dental drill.

Whatever the root cause, dental anxiety can be paralyzing to the patient in question. Maybe you can relate.

In the short run, it probably makes sense to you to lay low and not work through your anxiety with any dentist. But in the long run, it is only setting yourself up for more invasive procedures and higher costs. That’s just the reality of the situation. Prevention and early detection are always your best bets when it comes to optimizing oral health.

Our cleanings, exams and conservative treatments like dental fillings are far more pleasant and affordable than root canals, extractions, implants and so forth.

All this is to say that we take your fears seriously, but we won’t take them personally. We only want what is best for you, and to make it easy for you to get back on the good road for many years to come.

Like we said, we do that through compassion and kindness and with multiple levels of sedation dentistry.

Sedation Levels At New Albany Implants

Nitrous oxide is the mildest form we offer. This “laughing gas” makes you feel relaxed, and happy. Don’t worry, you’ll still be completely awake, however you won’t be preoccupied with your dental procedure.

Oral conscious sedation is administered in the form of a prescribed pill. By taking it a few hours before your appointment you’ll put yourself in the position to be very much at ease before your appointment begins. The nice thing is that won’t remember your procedure at all, or why you were ever afraid in the first place.

IV sedation is more intense.

General anesthesia is the highest level we offer, and it is seldom found in dental offices. This is complete unconsciousness that we can control for the necessary length of your procedure. You’ll be closely monitored to ensure a safe experience.
