Eat Healthier Foods With Dental Implants

May 3, 2015

Don’t let the food you are eating get you down. More to the point, don’t let the food you are not eating leave you feeling tired and listless throughout the day. In order to have plenty of energy, you need to eat food that are load with protein, vitamins, and fiber. The problem is, if you have teeth that are unhealthy or missing, then you are less likely to eat the healthy food with a lot of fiber.

The act of chewing is essential for your oral health, and if chewing is difficult or painful, then you are less likely to eat those foods that require a lots of chewing, like fruits and vegetables. Softer, over-processed foods are easy to chew, but they are not providing you with the proper nutrition for a healthy lifestyle.

Here at New Albany Implants, we want to keep Southern Indiana healthy by giving you the ability to eat healthy foods that require a lot of chewing, even if your dental health is not the best.

Staying Healthy

Some of the healthiest foods you can eat require a lot of chewing. In fact, most healthy foods are loaded with fiber, which means you are going to give your teeth quite a workout when you eat them.

Carrots, celery, even tasty apples are hard to eat if your teeth are unhealthy, or if you are missing teeth. The digestion process begins in the mouth when you start chewing. Chewing causes your mouth to produce saliva, which has properties that fight the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Chewing also breaks the food down so that your stomach can digest it more easily.

If you are eating food that does not require a lot of chewing, then you are not going to generate as much saliva, and you will not kick-start digestion, so your stomach will have more work to do.

Also, softer foods that are more easily chewed tend to be high in fat, sugar, and sodium, all of which your body needs fiber to process. Without the fiber, you may be putting your general health at risk because your body doesn’t have all it needs to properly digest your food.

Enjoying Life

Beside the direct health benefits of eating foods that are high in fiber, there is also a quality of life question that comes into play when you are forced to restrict what you eat because your teeth are unhealthy.

The bottom line is you should be able to eat what you want to eat, not necessarily all the time, but at least on occasion. If you have limitations on your diet because of your oral health, then you are not going to enjoy eating as much, and will not be getting the most out of life.

Let Us Help

At New Albany Implants, we can help fix those dental problems that are keeping your from eating want you want, or what is healthy. Implants can get your smile back into shape and help you chew without pain or discomfort once again.

Dental Implants

These are small studs, usually made from titanium, that are placed into your jaw where they will bond with the bone. The implant takes the place of the root of your tooth, so once the synthetic tooth is fastened to the top of the implant, it is just like having a new tooth. You can eat what you want!

Mini-Implants

If you need a tooth replaced, or dentures secured, in an area of your lower jaw that has low bone density, then a mini-implant may be right for you. Mini-implants work essentially the same way as a standard implant, but they do not require as much bone mass to bond to. In the past, this situation would have required a bone graft, but that is no longer necessary thanks to mini-implants.

The One Day Smile Solution

If you are tired of your dentures falling out at the worst possible moment, or of not being able to eat what you want, we can help. If your dentures are slipping, or are uncomfortable, we have the solution. If you are just plain tired of the upkeep and care that comes with dentures, then you may be ready for the One Day Smile Solution.

Instead of replacing each individual tooth, the One Day Smile Solution uses four implants to secure your dentures directly to your jawbone. No more slipping, and no more falling out. Chewing won’t be an issue, so you can eat plenty of healthy foods packed with fiber.
