Consider Your Sedation Options

There’s no longer a reason to avoid the dentist if you main concern is pain or fear. At New Albany Implants, we have great news for you, and a solution we think you’ll love. We are the only restorative dental office in southern Indiana to offer you various levels of sedation so that you are always comfortable. There’s no need to fear sounds, smells, or tastes any longer. Even the most anxious patient can rest easy in our office because we make it our job to keep you in complete comfort.

Each patient is unique with a unique dental history and unique experiences at the dentist. For some, dental work is no worry at all. A light sedation is adequate to keep the patient relaxed and comfortable during a procedure. For others, anxiety and fear kick in during a procedure, but a deeper level of sedation can keep them conscious but not aware. Finally, there are patients who cannot handle dental work at all. This patient’s five senses work against them to create a terrifying experience during a dental procedure. For this patient, we want to ensure a sedation deep enough that the patient will have no memory of their work being done.

Since each patient is unique, so are their sedation options. Here is an overview of sedation techniques with some pros and cons to help you decide which method would be best for you.

Nitrous Oxide:
More commonly referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is just enough sedation to relax you during a short and simple procedure. This works best for patients who get a little nervous but are not panicked. The biggest pro for this type of sedation is that it wears off quickly and allows you to come to the appointment by yourself.

Intravenous (I.V.) sedation:
The deepest form of sedation available in our office, IV sedation goes directly into the bloodstream and can provide relief in minutes. This type of sedation is for patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety, or patients who are receiving extensive dental work. One pro for IV sedation is that using IV sedation can actually turn several visits into one because the patient will be able to withstand longer periods of more complex work. Another fantastic aspect of this type of sedation is the ease with which our staff can control and adjust your level of sedation. Within minutes, your sedation level can change to one of more comfort and relaxation.

Regardless of your preference, we are here to make sure that nothing stands in the way of you and the dental care that you require. We maintain a compassionate office environment where you will feel accepted and cared for. We will never make you feel judged or ashamed because of the condition of your smile. Dental sedation is one aspect of that quality care that you’re looking for. Give us a call at New Albany Implants today, and we will set up your appointment so you can have the smile of your dreams without the worry.
