Do I Need Bone Grafting?
New Albany dentist Ronald Receveur, DDS has been caring for the dental implant needs of his patients for more than 35 years. His dental implant solutions offer simple, reliable, and long-lasting results for patients of any age who are missing teeth or experiencing the frustrations of loose, decayed, and broken teeth. Our office handles everything under one roof. Call us today at 888-469-3982 to schedule your visit. Dr. Receveur has extensive experience with the amazing One Day Smile Solution™ procedure. The One Day Smile Solution™ treatment concept is a cost-efficient, graftless dental solution that utilizes dental implants that are specially designed so that in one day, patients can leave his office with a new, natural-looking smile that feels like permanent teeth, works like permanent teeth, and is cared for like permanent teeth. In most cases, patients lacking the bone volume required to support traditional implants are able to enjoy the many benefits of a permanent solution to missing teeth with this innovative procedure. There is virtually no downtime. Patients can eat a light meal that same evening and face the world with a newfound confident smile the very next day. We hear patients frequently say things to us like:
- I had a dentist tell me that I didn’t have enough bone for implants … that I need bone grafting. Then he said I’d have to wait 6 months before I could even have implants. My treatment would take over a year to finish. Is that right?
- Do I REALLY need bone grafting?
- Another doctor told me I needed sinus bone grafting. He said I didn’t have enough bone on my upper jaw in the back to support implants. He said I was “stuck” with a denture the rest of my life if I didn’t do the sinus lift / sinus bone grafting. Am I stuck with a denture the rest of my life?
How does the The One Day Smile Solution™ eliminate the need for bone grafting in most cases?
The One Day Smile Solution™ technique uses posterior (rear) implants placed at an angle, avoiding the sinuses and eliminating the need for the additional bone grafting, unnecessary surgery, and added expense and time to complete the work (6 months or more). The One Day Smile Solution™ protocol requires no bone grafting for dental implants for most patients, with a success rate that is equal to or better than traditional implants.
What I learned from Dr. Paulo Malo in Lisbon, Portugal
Dr. Malo is the world-renowned innovator of the All-on-4™ prosthesis. I was fortunate to be invited to participate in an All-on-4™ Clinical Residency at the Malo Clinic in Lisbon Portugal. Dr. Malo flies to New York to help doctors treat very difficult cases. Patients from all over Europe and the world fly to Lisbon to have their dental implant care performed. It’s a remarkable place! Dr. Malo taught me how to avoid doing bone grafting in most cases. He taught me how to avoid the sinuses and nerves in my patient’s mouths and eliminate the need for bone grafting.
Benefits of The One Day Smile Solution™ treatment concept include:
- Full-arch rehabilitation with fewer implants needed than traditional implants
- Immediate function (new teeth / beautiful new smile on same day as implant placement)
- Graftless procedure … NO bone grafting!
- Bone grafting is avoided by tilting the posterior implants, using available bone (see image below)
This is one of our patients. He had the posterior implants placed to avoid the sinuses on his upper jaw and his implants placed on the lower to avoid the mandibular nerve and mental foramen. This approach means NO BONE GRAFTING! Here, in the picture below, I have outlined the mesial (front) wall of the sinus on the upper, and the mandibular nerve on the lower.
Of course, we want to avoid those structures. I have illustrated how we angled the implants to eliminate the need for bone grafting. We see many patients who are told they need bone grafting in the posterior (back or rear) areas in their mouths because they don’t have enough bone back there. We treat these cases successfully nearly every day without the extensive, expensive, and time-consuming treatment periods. I’ve drawn on the X-ray below where the sinuses and the mandibular nerves are and how we avoid them. This allows us to treat our patients and finish their care, in most cases, in a matter of 3-4 months instead of 12 months or more when bone grafting is done.
