Sedation Isn’t Just For Patients With Dental Anxiety

Sedation dentistry has been around in one form or another for at least 150 years. In modern dentistry, we know more about different kinds of dental sedation and how to make sedation more effective for all our patients.

There’s no question that sedation has helped countless patients deal with their dental anxiety at our dentist office in New Albany, IN.

But, anxious patients are not the only people who can benefit from this approach to dental care. Take a moment to read today’s post to learn more.

Or better yet, call (812) 945-7645 or contact New Albany Implants online to talk to one of our dentists about what sedation dentistry could do for you.

Why YOU May Want To Consider Dental Sedation

What can sedation dentistry do for you or your family? Let’s answer that by considering some of the issues you could be facing during a visit to the dentist office.

▶︎ You don’t want to feel pain.

This is a perfectly reasonable and understanding feeling. No one wants to feel pain, especially if they don’t have to.

Even if you aren’t afraid of the dentist, you still may prefer to remain as comfortable as possible throughout your visit. Keep in mind that we have many ways of providing dental care with little or no pain whatsoever.

Sedation dentistry may be the fastest and most effective way to do this, however.

▶︎ You want to save time.

Sedation dentistry isn’t just about reducing anxiety and helping your feel comfortable. It may allow you to complete your treatment in less time.

When you are sedated, you will remain relaxed throughout your procedure. When you are relaxed, this makes it easier for Dr. Receveur or one of our other dental professionals to complete your treatment in less time.

Your comfort isn’t just good for you. It’s good for the people helping you, too.

▶︎ You are getting dental implants.

Getting dental implants is more complicated than have a dental cleaning. When implants are placed correctly, they can improve your smile (by helping you replace missing teeth) and improve your quality of life (by restoring the function of your lost teeth).

But dental implants can only do those things if they are placed correctly. With IV sedation, we can keep you in a relaxed, calm state. We can prevent you from feeling any pain.

And we can complete your implant placement more efficiently.

▶︎ You are going through another complex procedure.

Dental implant placements are just one of the ways we can help restore the appearance and the function of your teeth. Sedation dentistry can make those procedures easier to handle as well.

▶︎ It can help someone you love to get the dental care they need.

You may not experience dental anxiety, but someone you love might. By bringing him or her to a practice that offers a range of sedation options — including IV sedation — you can have some peace of mind. You can feel comfortable knowing that he or she is getting the care needed to keep his or her mouth healthy with dental sedation.

Why Sedation Dentistry Is Part Of Our Practice

If you look around, you’ll find other dentists who offer sedation dentistry. Few offer all the sedation options that we do at New Albany Implants, however.

To be more specific, not many dentist offices offer IV sedation.

So why is this important to us?

It starts with Dr. Receveur‘s own life experience. Long before he entered dental school, Dr. Receveur understood why many patients dreaded getting dental care. As a child with a congenitally missing tooth and a partial cleft palate, he made more dental visits than many families will in a lifetime.

Dentistry wasn’t as advanced then as it is today. It’s fair to say that he had his fair share of painful dental experiences as a patient. That shaped his approach to patient care.

That’s also why comfort is one of the pillars of our practice. It’s why he completed the additional training and licensing to be able to offer IV sedation. Dr. Receveur wanted all the options he could have to be able to help as many patients as possible at his New Albany, IN, dentist office.

And we would love to help you or someone you care about, too.
