Proper Ways to Take Care of Your Dental Implants

August 6, 2012

Advancements in implant dentistry resulted to prosthetics so well made, only professionals can tell the implants from natural teeth. Despite the excellent quality of modern prosthetics, however, they still require care to maintain looking good as new.

Here are some ways to ensure your implants are in top form for a very long time:

    • More often than not, tooth loss is a result of a lifetime of poor dental habits. Thus, a change in lifestyle might be in order to care for your implants.

    • You only need to brush regular teeth twice a day to maintain oral hygiene. For implants, it is important to brush after every meal. Moreover, flossing might be required because food particles stuck between dental implants may damage the prosthetic.

    • You might need a special toothbrush to clean the prosthetic or dental abutment. Ask your dentists if there is a particular kind they can prescribe. You may also use a smaller toothbrush to clean the prosthetics thoroughly.

    • Regular dental check-ups are now more frequent. From an acceptable bi-annual visit, you should go to your dentist at least once every three months to keep your implants looking as good as new.

    • Avoid eating food and beverages that stain the teeth. The material used to make tooth prosthetics are so similar with the enamel that the same kinds of food and drink stain its artificial covering.

    • Sticky and hard food like candies and nuts should also be avoided. Think of food that may damage your regular teeth and chances are the same food might be bad for your prosthetics as well.

  • More than routine professional cleaning, your dentist may require you to undergo a few other exams such as x-rays and evaluations. This is important during the first few months to monitor your implant in case there is rejection.

Thanks to implant dentistry, permanent tooth loss is now a thing of the past. Following specified implant care methods, improving your dental habits, and regular appointments to your dentist may help your implants to last a lifetime.

I’m the type of person that is scared of the dentist have been my whole life. I scheduled consultation with Dr Ron and he answered all my questions and more. He and his staff are great they made me feel comfortable the whole time. They used sedation for my implant procedure and it was the best decision I have ever made!! I had zero pain whatsoever. The best thing is that they have gave me the ability to smile again and to be happy. Thank you to everyone at New Albany Implants. I recommend them to anyone needing dental implants.

Amazing experience. If anyone is anxious about seeing a dentist I can assure you don’t have to be with Dr. Receveur. My only regret is not having it done sooner. His staff is pretty awesome too.
