I’m Afraid of the Dentist

Gentle Dentist in Southern Indiana

The number of people who don’t see their dentists regularly is staggering. The most common reason keeping patients from getting the care they want and need is fear. It can be fear of drills, dental smells or anything related to the dentist. It can also be fear of pain and expensive procedures. The good news is, dental anxiety can be easily eliminated. Your dentist in New Albany cares for scared patients every day. After treatment, the same patients are often astounded at how painless (and even relaxing) dental procedures can be.

If you’ve been putting off dental care because of fear, see Dr. Receveur. He’s a dentist like no other, knowing how to put every patient at ease and help them relax. Many of our patients drive for hours just to get treated by Dr. Receveur. They won’t go to any other dentist because they know that the gentle care they receive at our Indiana dental clinic is the best.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is the use of sedatives to help anxious patients relax during procedures. Dr. Receveur provides different methods of sedation: nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV (intravenous) sedation.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a colorless gas that is administered through a small nose piece. Immediately after inhaling the gas, you will feel relaxed and calm. This option is recommended for mildly anxious patients who are undergoing short, uncomplicated procedures.

Oral Conscious Sedation

This method uses sedative pills (usually lorazepam or triazolam) that are taken about an hour before the procedure. Dr. Receveur has performed many extensive procedures using oral sedation, and it is recommended if you are only mildly afraid.

IV Sedation

IV Sedatives are administered through and IV and provides a deeper level of sedation. This method is recommended for very fearful patients or anyone who wants to remember nothing of the procedure.
