What Could Be Causing Your Sensitive Teeth?

You would know if you’ve ever experienced sensitive teeth. Anything hot, cold, sweet, or sour will set off a terrible, shooting pain through your tooth. It is definitely something you would notice. The question we hear a lot is how? How did I get sensitive teeth? There are many, many causes for sensitive teeth, but we will highlight a few of the most common causes so that you can begin to think about how to proceed.

Product Damage
This is damage caused by other dental products. Teeth whitening products are especially to blame for sensitive teeth. Hard bristle toothbrushes or brushing too hard with a normal toothbrush are both cause for sensitive teeth.

Natural Damage

Receding gums, cracked teeth, age, and bruxism (grinding teeth) are all natural causes for sensitive teeth. These aren’t necessarily things that you are in control of, but the damage happens all the same.

Neglect Damage

Some damage to your teeth comes from neglect. Gum disease, tooth decay, and plaque build-up are also causes of tooth sensitivity.

Whatever the reason for your sensitive teeth, there is hope. Start with some desensitizing toothpaste, and then give us a call. We may need to look into other options to help ease the pain of sensitive teeth. One thing is sure, we’ll have you enjoying your ice cream again in no time!
