Preparing Your Mouth For Vacation
Hello and welcome to another July edition of the New Albany Implants blog!
Summertime in Indiana sure is nice. But it is also nice to be able to carve out some time to get away with the family for some rest and relaxation. If you are heading anywhere before the school year starts back up again in August, we only ask that while you are enjoying yourself you don’t forget about your smile. We wouldn’t want to see all of your hard work fall apart while you are gone.
As such, today we want to talk about a few oral health considerations to remember when you are travelling. Keep reading and then be sure to get in touch to schedule your next appointment with us!
So many things can go awry once you are out of the state. That’s why we are of the opinion that it never hurts to pack an extra toothbrush, floss, etc.. You don’t want to be stuck without a toothbrush if any of your luggage gets lost or it falls onto an unsanitary ground. The other piece of this is to make sure you are using these items just like you would back at home. If you get the chance, rinsing with fluoride would be all to the good too.
Watch What You Consume
We know it is hard not to let loose when you are out of your usual routine. But we hope you will still be mindful of sugary drinks and snacks. Sugar starts an acid outbreak in your mouth that lasts a good half hour after you eat your last bite. During that time your enamel is softened and can be worn away, leading to the spread of bacteria and the beginnings of cavities. It won’t be any fun to have to come back and deal with fillings in the fall.
Drink Plenty Of Water
Water is so good for your mouth. Drinking plenty of water will help keep bacteria at bay and also keep your breath from turning foul at an inopportune moment. It’s an easy way to help yourself.
Don’t Do Anything Stupid
We are talking only about your mouth. Whatever other decisions you make will be entirely up to you. But, seriously, don’t bite down on exotic foods that could chip your teeth. And don’t use your teeth to open beer bottles and so forth.
Visit New Albany Implants Before You Leave Town
We are your trusted partner for oral health but we can’t do you much good if you never come for a visit. That’s why you should come see us before you hit the road. A preventive dental checkup will freshen up your smile and could help identify any potential issues early. That will also help ensure you aren’t left to deal with painful problems far from home.
We’ll make sure you’re prepared for your summer travels with a comprehensive exam that covers all the bases.
