Keep Calm And Request Our Sedation Dentistry
Perhaps you’ve had a bad experience at the dentist or you’re scheduled for a procedure you’re totally unfamiliar with. Whatever the case, it’s common for patients to have anxiety about visiting the dentist. It’s estimated that 5 to 8 percent of Americans avoid the dentist out of fear and that more than 20 percent of Americans will only visit a dentist when it’s absolutely necessary.
At New Albany Implants, we don’t like to see patients put off major dental needs because they are afraid of the dentist. That’s why we offer a comfortable, friendly and professional atmosphere and practice sedation dentistry.
Nitrous Oxide and Oral Conscious Sedation
Both oral sedation and nitrous oxide are popular options for patients who have a mild fear of the dentist and need to have something to help them relax during a visit. These options keep the patient awake but help calm their nerves. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off within minutes of the procedure and the patient is free to drive themselves home. Oral conscious sedation is stronger than nitrous oxide and is ideal for patients who, in addition to having anxiety about their procedure, have a mild gag relax.
IV sedation is perhaps our most useful tool for people who have severe anxiety about their dental visits or procedures. This method is also known as sleep sedation. Patients who select our IV sedation can have entire complex procedures without ever remembering them. IV sedation allows our staff to complete procedures that would have otherwise taken multiple visits. We are one of the few practices in the area that is certified to render this service.
