Fear Is The Tooth Killer!

November 16, 2015

Being scared of the dentist is unfortunately common and it’s one of the biggest contributors to the destruction of teeth around the world! At New Albany Implants we understand that dental care can be frightening – it’s intrusive, can be painful, and you aren’t able to see what’s going on – but it’s also very important to preventing problems like gum disease and tooth decay!

Regular dental care doesn’t have to be a frightening experience, especially at our New Albany dentist office. We’ve designed our entire practice around making dentistry an anxiety-free experience and we want to share that with you!

What’s At Risk When You Avoid The Dentist?

Most dental health issues are caused by two things: tooth decay and gum disease. Both can result in the loss of teeth and bone, infection, and soft tissue damage. They’re also both caused by the same problem: plaque bacteria.

Not all the bacteria in your mouth is harmful but a lot of it is damaging to your teeth and gums. That bacteria causes problems because of the way it metabolizes sugar in the foods you eat. When it eats them it quickly turns sugar to acid that eats away at your teeth and damages your gums.

Over time this damage adds up but with regular dental care it can all be avoided and repaired before it gets worse! Because plaque bacteria is always building up on your teeth and gums you need to brush and floss to eliminate it. That doesn’t always do the trick, however, which is where professional dental care comes in. Without it those hard-to-reach spots become hotbeds of bacteria!

Combatting Dental Fear

We’re confident that we can help you get over your dental fears at our New Albany office. We use our “retrain your brain” method to help you forget those old pain associations from dentistry in the past and learn that a trip to our office can be easy!

It starts with our great staff, comfortable environment, and patient amenities designed to make your visit great. We value you as a patient and we don’t want you to leave our office having had a bad experience! We’ll do whatever we need to in order to make your visit relaxing and stress-free.

For Patients With Extreme Fears

We understand that all the brain training in the world simply can’t conquer all our patients’ fears. That’s why we offer multiple levels of sedation that are designed to treat everyone. From those who simply feel a bit uneasy to those who can’t stand the idea of a needed procedure – we’ll cover all the bases!

  • Nitrous Oxide allows us to relax you and make your treatment much easier to bear, and all without actually being put to sleep. Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, will have you feeling calm and comfortable but still fully alert. It’s a great solution for short procedures or for patients that are just a bit nervous about care. When your procedure is over we’ll remove the nosepiece and you’ll feel fine almost immediately!
  • Oral Conscious Sedation is a good way to get a deeper level of relaxation than nitrous that will still leave you awake, all while helping you forget the details of your procedure. You’ll be awake but you won’t remember a thing with this one simple pill. By taking it before your procedure you’ll guarantee that its fully kicked in by the time you sit down in the chair. Because of the strength and longer duration of oral conscious sedation we require you to bring a driver with you.
  • IV Sedation is identical to the “twilight” sedation offered in hospitals for routine outpatient procedures. It will leave you in a state between sleep and awake in which you won’t remember anything of your procedure. We’ll closely monitor your vital signs in order to ensure safe sedation and you’ll just wake up after your appointment feeling great!
  • General Anesthesia is the highest level of sedation available and one that’s hard to find outside a hospital. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this level of sedation at New Albany Implants – it’s great for long procedures, phobic patients, or for those who may not understand what’s going on during a dental visit. With general anesthesia you’ll be completely unconscious, making the procedure be easy to complete.

Let Us Help You

The only way to ensure that your smile lasts for life is to take good proactive care of it. If you’re scared about dentistry let us show you the difference compassionate, patient-centered care can make at New Albany Implants!
