A Sedation Selection Like No Other
When you’re trying to overcome dental fears, it is important to have some assistance, should you need it. What we find with some patients is an exaggerated feeling of fear, which simply means that the patient thinks they’ll be afraid, but when the moment actually comes, they are just fine. Other patients are the opposite. So we always have sedation options on hand and are in constant communication with our patients to make sure they are comfortable. When you’re sitting in our chair, these are the things available to you:
1) Nitrous Oxide Gas: Also known as laughing gas, this sedation method is administered at the time of the procedure through a mask. The gas will simple calm your mind and body, but you will still be awake and aware. This is perfect for someone with mild concerns and a relatively uneventful procedure.
2) Oral Conscious Sedation: Sedative pills must be taken about an hour before a procedure for full potency. With oral sedation, your body is a bit more relaxed, but most of our patients are still awake or can be easily roused. This is recommended for someone with moderate anxiety or a procedure that is a bit complicated or lengthy.
3) IV sedation: Given intravenously, this sedation goes to work immediately. We can use lighter or deeper sedation, depending on your preferences. If you wish, you can be under IV sedation and remember nothing about your procedure. This is recommended for someone with severe anxiety or a complicated procedure.
Regardless of your preference, we check every patient’s health background to ensure safety during drug administration. We want to set you up for a successful dental procedure so that you can retrain your brain to be unafraid of the dentist. Remember the cycle of fear we discussed yesterday? It’s time to stop that cycle and get a healthy smile! Contact us today to set up your appointment. We can’t wait to show you what an easy dental appointment looks like!
