Dental emergencies can come in many forms: a vehicle accident, a bad collision while playing sports or just your run-of-the-mill freak accidents. The results can vary from slight movement, chips, cracks or even breaks in your teeth.
If you experience any of these problems, you should consult our office immediately. At New Albany Implants, we can access your tooth for trauma and offer restorative and cosmetic options.
Tooth trauma
Don’t think of tooth trauma exclusively as broken or missing teeth. If you experience trauma to a tooth, there be more at play than meets the eye. We know that sometimes when there is no visible damage to the tooth, the death of pulp inside your tooth can cause an abscess to form around your tooth’s root. When there is an abscess around the tooth’s root, a root canal is needed to ensure the infection does not spread to your other healthy teeth.
Prevent trauma
Tooth trauma cannot always be prevented, but patients can take precautions such as wearing mouth guards during sporting events or containing cavities before they balloon into larger issues. If you have teeth with several untreated cavities, that weakens your tooth and makes it more susceptible to breaks or damage. We can provide fillings that match the natural color of your teeth and can withstand substantial amounts of chewing force.
Teeth that are knocked out of the socket can be reset if the tooth can be found and properly preserved. Patients can place the dislodge tooth in water and should immediately visit our office. If the tooth can successfully be replanted into its original socket, it’s likely it will later need a root canal. For missing teeth, our office can provide dental implants that we back with an unprecedented 10-year warranty!
