We offer a specialty service here at New Albany Implants, which means that some of our patients have, or want to have, a different general dentist who takes care of their routine cleanings and exams. It’s great to have that relationship with a routine dentist! Now that you have dental implants, your care changes a little bit, and your dentist needs to know how to care for them. We’ve put together a list of some things to discuss with your dentist before or after your implant procedure.
1) Will you feel comfortable cleaning my implants?
Dental implants still require routine dental cleanings. We have to gently clean debris from around the implant, which means there will be some contact with the titanium posts. Titanium is easily scratched by traditional dental tools, which is why we recommend using plastic or titanium instruments when cleaning.
2) How often should I come in?
We generally see our implants patients once a year for routine cleanings, but your dentist might have other ideas. Remember, a dental exam is important to check for oral cancer, gum disease, and other infections.
3) How can you help me keep them healthy?
Ask your dentist to help you maintain a plan for the health of your dental implants. They can discuss brushing and flossing tip with you so that you feel completely comfortable caring for your new dental implants!
The number one thing we want your dentist to say is, “Wow!’ Your smile will be forever changed, and we want to see you able to take great care of your new smile! Contact us if you have any questions or concerns about the care of your new teeth. We can’t wait to hear from you soon!
