Your oral health routine is incredibly important to the health of your entire mouth. Brushing and flossing keep your teeth and gums healthy and protected from decay and infection. Just because you have replaced your teeth with dental implants does not mean that this routine is over! Oral hygiene is still incredibly important for our One Day Smile Solution patients as well as patients with dentures and mini implants! Even though your teeth are not natural, they can still get damaged!
Brushing
Brushing your teeth doesn’t go away, no matter what you do to restore your teeth! Even dentures need to be removed and brushed once a day, and you should still brush your gums twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Your dental implants need to be brushed as well to remove food particles and bacteria that can cause gum disease and bad breath!
Flossing
Just like with your natural teeth, your dental implants will collect bacteria and food particles between your teeth. It is important that you remove this debris in order to maintain your overall healthy mouth!
Dental Cleanings
Dental implant patients need to have their routine dental cleaning about once a year instead of every six months. Be sure your dentist is prepared to clean around dental implants using plastic or titanium tools to protect the implants from damage. Denture wearers should also check in with their dentist regularly to make adjustments to their dentures and check the health of their gums.
Here’s the nutshell: No matter what happens to your teeth, you will always need to maintain checkups with your dentist! We check more than just teeth! Be sure to make time for your dental appointment, and maintain a routine visit schedule according to your dental needs.
