Dental implants sound pretty great, right? Prosthetic teeth that feel like natural teeth. Prosthetic teeth than function like natural teeth. Prosthetic teeth that even look like natural teeth. Does it get any better than that? We don’t see how it could! There’s still one question, though. How in the world does one take care of these things? Teeth are easy, we’ve been taking care of those for our entire lives! Dentures aren’t as easy, but we kind of know what to expect: they have to sit overnight in a cleaning solution, or something, right? What about false teeth that don’t come out? What do you do for those?
Caring for dental implants might be more familiar than you realize. While you might not know it, you’ve probably been practicing these habits for your entire life. Caring for dental implants is as easy as caring for your natural teeth! It’s the same process exactly!
Wait, what’s that process again?
Oral hygiene for natural teeth is the same as oral hygiene for dental implants. Well, almost the same. Daily brushing (in the morning, after meals, and before bed) along with daily flossing is the best way to care for your dental implants. Whether you have one implant, or a whole mouth of them, implants are cared for in the same way. Even in your prosthetic teeth can’t develop cavities, flossing and brushing is important to prevent gum disease, which you can still get with full dental implants!
Make sure your regular dentist is prepared for your dental implants. Some instruments aren’t appropriate for your titanium posts. If you have any questions, just give us a call at the office! Dental implants can seem very foreign, but in actuality, they will remind you a lot of your natural teeth! We look forward to showing you how similar they can be!
